When is the best time to take a Disney Cruise?

A Disney Cruise is the perfect getaway for kids and adults alike. Every amazing Disney ship was designed with enjoyment for everyone in mind - from supervised kids' club spaces, to adult-only nightclub, dining, and pool spaces (even an adults-only beach on Castaway Cay), all with that untouchable Disney guest service and cleanliness.

You know you want to go! Now to decide when to make it happen. There's no doubt a Disney Cruise is a premium-priced vacation. This is due to strong demand paired with relatively low inventory. Three new Disney ships are in the pipeline, but don't expect much of a dip in prices once those are available. The value of a Disney Cruise isn't dropping anytime soon!

The most popular Disney itineraries are to the Bahamas and the Eastern and Western Caribbean out of Florida. They're offered all year round, but pricing can vary widely.

I'll cut to the chase: The best time for a Disney Cruise is whenever your availability intersects with the least demand. In other words, if you can sail off-season when schools are in session, you'll find better pricing not only for your cruise but likely for airfare, pre-hotel stays, and other travel components as well.

You'll find the highest prices for Disney Cruises:
  • over the summer school break
  • the Christmas & New Year's school break
  • over the week of Easter, and the Spring Break weeks preceding it
You'll find the lowest prices for Disney Cruises to the Bahamas & Caribbean in:
  • January and early February (with the exception of MLK and President's Day weeks)
  • Fall (hurricane season - more on that in a moment)
  • early December
  • mid-to-late April and early May, post-Easter
Hurricane season can offer calm sailing and pleasant weather if there are no storms present. If your sailing is impacted by impending weather, your itinerary may be adjusted to sail around a storm. In extreme instances where the departure port is threatened by a hurricane making landfall, your sailing may be postponed or canceled. It is important to protect your vacation investment with travel insurance in the event you need to cancel or adjust your flights (or your cruise) as a result of weather. Many people sail in the fall without impact from hurricanes - but you must be prepared for the worst-case scenario. This can be true of wintertime departures as well, if you live someplace that could receive ice or snow the day you're planning to fly out for your cruise.

Smart travelers should consider travel insurance mandatory for all cruise vacations because cruises are partially or entirely non-refundable inside of making your final payment.
