5 Things You Must Do Before Your Disney World Vacation

You're going to Walt Disney World!
How will you be sure you're getting the most out of your time and money?
By doing your homework, of course.
Here's what you need to have done in advance.

  • Score your FastPasses! Three big priorities are Flight of Passage in Animal Kingdom Park, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train in Magic Kingdom, and Slinky Dog Dash coaster in Hollywood Studios (opening with Toy Story Land on June 30, 2018!) Do this at exactly 7am, 60 days ahead of your onsite stay. You must have valid park admission attached to your resort reservation, and it all needs to be linked into your My Disney Experience account. If you don't have a resort stay that grants you 60 day access, you'll need to wait until day 30 to make your first day's FastPasses, and repeat that daily for your subsequent days.
  • Make Advance Dining Reservations for all Table Service restaurants at which you'll wish to dine. Do this at 6am,180 days ahead of your arrival for an onsite package to make all of your dining reservations for up to a 10-day stay. If you're not staying onsite, you'll need to log in 180 days prior to every meal reservation you want to make.
  • Before you can tackle Numbers 1 & 2, you'll need to plan where you'll be each day to be sure your FastPasses and Dining Reservations are compatible! Getting around Walt Disney World can take longer than you think, so a FastPass for Rock-n-Roller Coaster at 4:15pm and a dinner reservation at 'Ohana at 5pm aren't going to work out very well. It's best not to plan your park days around dining reservations, because each park has busier days and slower days (and you want to be there on the slower days).
  • Build a strategy to avoid long lines - beyond using your 3 pre-booked FastPass selections. Be familiar with the rides that build long waits early in the day, and be sure you plan for those first.
  • Customize your family's MagicBand colors before your trip is 30 days away, or you might end up with all gray! (No fun when there's a rainbow to choose from.)
